I lost my mother on February 20, 2008. I've spent the past 2 years dealing with her death and the loss to such a central part of my life.

My mother lived in Louisiana (where I'm from) and I live in Nebraska. I was able to go to Louisiana at least 4 times a year during the last 3 years she was alive. The 6 months before she died, I was there 4 out of the 6 months.

When she was hospitalized the last time I booked the first flight the next morning and flew to Louisiana. I was 10 minutes away from the hospital when I received the call that she had passed. I went to the hospital anyway and sat with her. I spent a week there taking care of the arrangements and cleaning out her belongings. My siblings asked me to speak at her funeral and it was truly one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I have a job that requires a great deal of travel but I called me mother at least 3 times a day. There are still times when I'm driving between appointments and I automatically pick up the phone to call her because I know I have a couple of hours to drive. I didn't remove her number from speed dial until I had to get a new cell phone.

No matter where I've lived, I spent flew back to Louisiana and spent the holidays with my mother. I still feel lost at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I called her at midnight every New Year since I moved away from home over 20 years ago. The first year at midnight I cried. This year I cried and I prayed.

I will try to attend the conference this year. I don't know what to expect, but there is comfort in knowing that I would be surrounded by people with similar experiences.

Thank you for creating this forum.

I lost my mother June 2009 and during the preparation for her service I felt like I never really knew who my mother was. I would like to talk to young woman about "getting to know your mother" now!

This site is GREAT! So proud of you and what you are doing. You're taking a tragedy and turning it to triumph for not only you but for hundreds, and I'll say it now, millions of women around the world who are trying to deal. You're giving them an outlet that was not available to them. I heard even my wife say things while on the phone with you that I didn't even know. So already H.E.R. is a blessing.

Keep it up Lex and I'll ALWAYS be here to help you with this.

Alexis-

I know Mrs. Nelson is in Heaven saying look at my baby! What you are doing is such a great gift those who just feel lost and vulnerable. This conference is a God send and He used you to bring it together. I am so proud of you and proud to be your friend. I Love You and Pray that God continues to use you. I know you will be successful.

I am so proud to see what you are doing! This is such a great effort to support those who have experienced such a loss. God truly does use you as His vessel to do His work. I wish you nothing but success, as I know you will benefit greatly from H.E.R. Day but more than that I know others will reap the same benefit!

Much Success!!!
